The workshop

Everything starts by hand.

Make something until you understand how it works. Only then does it turn into a tool.

Looking closely

Until the form is right.

Painting, sculpture, model making. Not a counterweight to the work but the same work: leave nothing standing that you cannot explain.

Tearing down

What does not hold gets torn down.

Every statement has to get past a counter-proof. If it does not hold, it is not painted over but replaced – and the point where it broke stays on as a rule.

And out of that

Tools.

The same hand, the same questions – except that now a machine works alongside, one that measures, calculates and remembers.

What comes of it

Design with AI

A sketch and a few measurements become a dimensioned part you can check. Not rendered pictures, but geometry you can carry on working with.

From a measured part to a printable body. Calculated geometry instead of drawn lines – gears from module and number of teeth, bores with a fit, parts that go together because they come from the same measurements.

What stands beside this is not an illustration but the output itself: a pair of spur gears in mesh, 26,004 triangles from the STL file, turned in the browser. The centre distance is not set by hand – it follows from the module and the tooth counts.

Who we work for

A website is the same craft as everything else here: look, measure, discard, until the form is right. We have been designing identities, brands and print since 1999 – and what comes out of it belongs to the business it was made for, not to a template.

The range is deliberate. From the landscape gardener who wants to show what becomes of a slope, to the leading maker of aluminium semi-finished products whose customers ask about tolerances, not about mood. Both need the same work: understand what the business actually is, and only then design.

Why there are no client projects on this site

Because an online showroom promises the wrong thing. Someone else's work only shows what someone else decided – it says nothing about yours. Every project is made for a business, not for a gallery, and what we learn about that business belongs to it, not to our home page.

What stands here instead are the tools we built ourselves, and the rules that came out of them. We do show work – in conversation, on the case that matches yours, and only with the consent of those it was made for.

“Show me the proof. How do we know that? Have we tested it?”

The three questions every statement here has to get past. That is why each rule is kept next to the incident it was learned from – a rule without its incident is overwritten at the first gust of wind.

The line

Twenty-seven years of design, advertising and trade – and out of that the question that drives everything here: not “how do I build this?” but “what is this, actually?”
